MOTTE TO REPORT TO ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE
ST. LOUIS, MO, September 27, 2007— On the heels of his appearance in the Texas League Championship Series, MAC Sports' Jason Motte will report to the Arizona Fall League (AFL).
The twenty-five year-old Cardinals pitching prospect has been assigned to the Mesa Solar Sox, who begin play October 9. The righthanded reliever most recently pitched at AA Springfield, helping lead the Cardinals to a franchise record 73 victories, and the Texas League North Division Title. He finished the regular season with an impressive 2.20 ERA in 44 appearances.
"We congratulate Jason on this season's successes, and wish him the best of luck in Arizona", remarked Scott Cassanover, MAC Sports' Director of Baseball Operations. "The AFL is the next step in his dream of becoming a Major Leaguer."
The AFL has become known as an elite "finishing school" for players who are considered nearly ready for the Major Leagues. Twenty-four former AFL players participated in this year's Major League All-Star Game in San Francisco. The league is comprised of six teams, which play in the Phoenix area from October 9 through November 17.
